If you watch any cricket team, there is one player who is constantly at the heart of the action. They are the engine room of the fielding side, the chief motivator, and the driver of the team's energy.

We are of course talking about the wicketkeeper.

Wicketkeeping is one of the most rewarding roles on the cricket pitch, but it is also a highly specialised craft. Far too often in junior cricket, a young player is handed the gloves on match day with little to no specific technical training. They is an expectation to just "stand there and catch it."

We want to change that.

Matt Bradbury Sports Coaching is excited to introduce our brand-new Junior Wicketkeeping Group Coaching Sessions, launching this week (24th June 2026) to help young cricketers build genuine technique, improve reactions, and grow their confidence behind the stumps with coaching guidance.

The Details: When & Where

We are bringing these junior wicket keeping sessions to Goosedale Sports Club, the home of Notts and Arnold Cricket Club.

  • Day: Wednesday evenings

  • Time: 7:20 PM – 8:20 PM

  • Location: Goosedale Sports Club, Goosedale Lane, Bestwood Village, Nottingham (NG6 8UJ)

Why Train in a Wicketkeeping Group?

Parents often ask me if individual coaching is always the best route for technical positions. When it comes to wicketkeeping, training in a specialised group environment offers big benefits that a one-on-one session simply cannot replicate:

  • environment, the energy stays high, and players feed off each other's enthusiasm, mimicking the vibrant atmosphere of a live game.

  • Peer Learning: Young cricketers learn a large amount by watching others. Seeing others execute a strong lateral movement or a good take reinforces the coaching points visually.

  • Friendly Competition: Group activities allow us to introduce fun, competitive elements - that push young keepers to improve their skills while having fun.

  • Building a Keepers' Union: Wicket keepers are very unique! Training together creates a supportive environment where they share successes, build confidence, and realise they are part of a specialised position within a team.

  • Realistic Game Energy: Wicketkeeping is all about focus and stamina. In a group

What We Will Focus On

Whether your child is completely new to wearing the gloves or looking to take their existing game to the next level, our sessions bridge the gap between basic fundamentals and game tactics. We will actively work on:

  1. The Basics of Wicketkeeping: Perfecting the setup, posture, footwork, and hand positioning to ensure every take is clean and safe.

  2. Specific Technical Drills: Focused exercises to build lateral movement, diving technique, standing up to the stumps, and clean takes from both spinners and seamers.

  3. Game Concepts: Introducing tactical awareness, such as how to read the bowler, direct the field, and understanding positioning for different kinds of delivery.

Our ultimate goal is to build the youngsters skillset and support their confidence so that they can deliver during a game situation when under a bit more pressure.

Secure Your Child’s Spot Behind the Stumps!

Places in our specialised group are limited to ensure every young cricketer gets feedback and ample glove time. Don't let your child miss out on turning this important position into a great strength.
